Bedak Amoi

Baby's skin is so sensitive, they tend to get red marks or dots or rashes easily...even terkena ur susu pun boleh jadi merah-merah.
What I learned from from MIL is to put the "bedak amoi" not only on baby's bum, but tempat lain pun boleh...

CD testing 1,2,3...

When Abrey was born..all i could think of is to pakai him the CDs...untill his meconium habis keluar & putus the tali pusat...but so lama the tali pusat mau putus. So after his meconium habis & taik jadi runny & yellowish, sya pun pigi testing lah the newborn size fitted diaper....

Tapi...in less than an hour, ngam-ngam 3x dia berak...so 3x lah sya tukar tu diaper. My Cds bukan lah banyak sangat mau tukar banyak kali. So tunggu lagilah, untill he tidak begitu banyak berak. For now, still kasih guna him lampin & cover diaper.

BreastFeeding: Jamu Selapan

I thought labor was hard..I have no idea, breastfeeding is even harder..!!! It involve your mind, physically & mentally..

On my second day at the hospital, my nenen still got no "gatas" a.k.a susu. So every few hours the nurses would take Baby Abrey for feeding and I was curious how they would feed my baby. I think they were inside one of the pantry or room. Then one of the senior nurse saw me & asked me what was I doing there...then she ajar me how to kasih kluar susu from nenen (I think she's the 5th nurse who picit my nipple already, memang no susu). When she picit, punyalah sakit, so I was like "ouch..!!" then she said "Tidak bulih tu berfikiran negatif, kalau sakit mesti tahan..mesti mau berfikiran positif".

Then they start spoon-feeding baby Abrey, my heart sank when I saw him struggling for the little spoon. The senior nurse asked me to return to my room, by this time tears started to build-up. As I enter my room, i burst out crying. Gerry looked puzzled. "Kenapa kau ni?".... "Kesian bah tu baby..."

I didnt know the senior nurse followed me from behind, I think she panicked when she saw me crying...less than 2minutes later 2 nurses came from the "Unit Sokongan Penyusuan Susu Ibu" wah...punya pantas dorang datang. Then Gerry said " Nah datang sudah tu nurse yang kita pigi seminar haritu.." Its the same nurses who conduct the seminar about breastfeeding when we attend the "Father friendly" at the Hospital. So she asked me very nicely "Bagitau saya apa yang kamu mau...supaya kami boleh tolong"...then I said "Saya tiada susu..." so she teached me how to stimulate my breast & the right way to picit my nipple...tidak sakit pun. Maka all the other nurses yang buat punya sakit...!!

3rd day still no gatas. MIL been feeding me buah papaya muda mixed in soup ayam kampung. Gerry & MIL take turns spoon feeding Baby Abrey. I also let him hisap my nenen eventhough no gatas...nipple getting sore & got blister.

4th day, nite time. I was so happy when I saw ONE spot of milk coming out from my nipple. So sya kasih kana sana bibir Baby Abrey...kasih tapun dia hehe. Nipple very the sakit.

5th day, few spots of milk...manage to kumpul 5ml. Sikit, but damn happy.

6th day, my nipple luka already, but still kena suruh juga kasih "tangau" my nenen... I can kumpul up to 10ml. mau parah sampai 1jam jugalah.

7th day, can parah 1oz but took me 1-2hours.

8th day, i'm getting really stressed...this was the time when it hit me again. I was spoon feeding Abrey, ( still spoon feeding, coz nipple luka&sakit) but he tidak habis my pumped milk. When I put him to bed, get back to the milk, kena masuk insect. Kimet!!! Throw the 1 oz milk away. Then start pumping again...2oz for 1 and a half hour, Abrey crying..put the pumped milk beside the bed, then I dunno what happenned...milk tumpah "Arrgg!!!!!" Then nangis lagi... nasib at 1am, US time masih daytime. So chat with Uloi & I let it out to her...made an online purchase, then I felt better then start pumping again untill 3am.

Next morning, I SMSed Josie, "nanti kau singgah sia tu benda mujarab for nenen. I cannot tahan already, baby makin kuat minum, my nipple luka berabis.."Apparently Josie told me this benda mujarab really works for Jessica my sister punya sister-in-law. She said trus kluar macam susu lembu.

I introduce you Jamu Selapan is very mujarab. Before I can only pump 1-2oz for an hour plus. After "topis" this on my nenen for good 45mins...3oz in 45mins. woweee!!! If you're lucky ber"driping-driping" lagi.

1 day before beranak I ordered a travel wipe case from Peekaroobaby. I know i would'nt be using it that soon, but manalah tau...now it is quite handy when we brought baby Abrey to poliklinik to check-up on his jaundice, , tidak lah payah bawa the big whole wetwipes. But we havent got any taik "blowout" lagi since he's been a good baby...tiiiidur saja. Nasib jugalah...

Labor #1 : Heavy Duty

My first few words to the nurses who changed my hospital gown after I woke up after giving birth, was "Heavy duty juga ni beranak kan...gilaa"

I felt a mild contraction on monday morning around 9am...I was chatting with my cousins & asked me to time my contraction, but didnt kira the timing, coz belum lagi that sakit. I told Gerry about the contraction at noon...and remind him to finish the baby cot, trus baru mau pigi cat..!!

3.30pm : woke up from my afternoon nap, I felt it more intense and start timing it...15mins apart.

5.30pm : Down to 8mins apart...SMSed Didi about my contraction & she said bulih sudah pigi Hospital. But I said, sya mau mandi dulu & cuci rambut..."if I terberanak tonite sure cannot cuci hair for 1 month.."

7.00pm : Gerry belum sampai lagi..contraction 5-6mins apart...Didi & MIL offer to send me to Hospital, but sya mau Gerry juga hantar. Hehe..

8.00pm : Arrived Hospital Likas. Didi did the check-up on me....& she yang juga kurik-kurik my bobong, & I saw her glove ada darah.

9.00pm : Change to pink hospital gown. Check-in Wad Kenanga 2. Gerry takajut, coz he did'nt expect im gonna beranak sudah soon. Dia fikir bulih balik rumah lagi.

After 9.00pm I didnt bother to look at the time. Contraction is sure sakit, but still bearable. Muntah my dinner...there goes my energy.

10 something pm, Didi came with mama...checked my bobong again & i'm 4cm dilated. She told me, the nurses tidak berani check my bobong, dunno why...

Half an hour later, nurses came with trolley bed and transfer me to the labor room.

Didi broke my waterbag...

Cannot stand the pain & demand for epidural...I think Didi got irritated by me, coz balik-balik saya tanya where is the epidural doctor...and she said "Kau fikir kau saturang saja kah patient di sini hospital.." kuang, kuang, kuang...

I was in the labor room for 12hrs...and been pushing for 2hrs. There's when I pushed they said..."aaah ngam lah tu, ajan lagi" & I pushed again..."...mmm salah tu cara ko ajan..." tapi samaaa saja sya push dari tadi lagi, I really dunno what's the difference.

At 7am, I'am already 9cm dilated but it stucked there until 9.30am....punya lama!!! nasib ada epidural...

Berabis lagi phone Gerry bunyi-bunyi kena call from family members if sya sudah beranak ka belum, sampai habis phone battery dia.

Ada lagi ketawa sama-sama tu mid-wives sebab epidural kan, sya tidak rasa sakit pun...sempat lagi minta cermin , sebab mau tinguk sampai mana tu kepala kluar...

Every half an hour or an hour, I can hear babies crying of being born...there's time where Gerry told me i'm the only one left in the wad bersalin who belum beranak lagi, every room was empty except for room 7. There this one moment I was pushing..everyone was "ya!! push lagi..!!push lagi..!!" & ada juga bilik sebelah pun "ya!! push lagi..!!push lagi..!!"...the mid-wives said to me, "hah Joyce, bertanding lah kamu, siapa dulu keluar....then we heard baby cries di sebelah bilik...I was so frustrated.

The epidural started to wear off & it was really-really painfull...tidak bulih lagi senyum-senyum. Sudahlah I can't drink water, only a few sips & to kasih basah-basah my bibir...trus ada juga Gerry kasih minum sya holy water, hahaha!!! Holy water from my mom kana bawa that morning when Didi minta hantar baju.

The doctor said its been too long & mesti vacumm. But the mid-wives berusaha juga mau saya push supaya tidak kena vacumm. Last-last I gave up & said..."Ah..vacumm lah...".

When the specialist came, the room is sooo packed macam bulih sampai 20ppl...Gerry, Didi, 2 mid-wives, 1 doctor, 1 specialist, 1 paediatric doctor, & lots of training doctors...sya pun tidak paduli sudah.

Punya slow lagi tu specialist mau explain to me what he's gonna do...this & that...sudahlah orang kesakitan the contraction...even when he gunting my bobong pun sya tidak rasa...then I saw him pull, punya berabis lagi dia pull..& I thought..kalau dia pun susah mau tarik..apalagi saya mau push.

Finally baby Abrey is out at 11.37am...I did'nt manage to look at his face, only his back & balabak, coz dorang trus bawa kluar immediately after potong the umbilical cord. Suddenly the room trus empty, tinggal me, Gerry & 1 mid-wife who jahit my bobong yang vusas...then sya trus patah.

Memang betul-betul heavy duty, really dunno if I can go through it again...

I dedicate this entry to Gerry & Didi who being there for me through labor. I love you both too!!

but most of all to Gerry who took care of me & baby Abrey...

Stretch Marks!!

This is how bad my stretch marks looks like, I swear I did not scratch it....I've been using soooo many brands of stretch marks oil/lotion that contains vitamin E from the cheapest Pureen to the most expensive Colonial Dames, pun sama juga...

Punya sakit hati sya beli the Colonial Dames oil, cost me RM59.90, can buy 1 Drybees pocket worrr, and this oil habis 2weeks saja...but I made Gerry pay for that oil lah, but still!!!

Lesson #16

To all mamas who is working and taking part-time classes and have kids while pregnant...I just wanna ask...how do you guys do it??....

Last week, I was so stressed-up, working with 2 midterm exams coming, baby getting heavier plus did'nt get much sleep..(because of the online shopping...*wink*wink*). I told Gerry that I don't want to go to work anymore, because i need some rest & i have'nt finish packing & washing all the baby's cloth...but he said, just tahan & it will be a few days more untill my last days of work...I cried myself to sleep...:( Itupun baru pregnant, belum lagi after beranak.

Then, how about the others yang i know...My friend Lelen who is taking same course with me, have 2 kids...last 2 semester...after beranak boleh lagi ambil final exam. My cousin ollol also have 2 kids now, just delivered a baby girl also working and taking extra classes, and my sis-inlaw Uloi, working and taking her PHd...while taking care of her baby girl...How u guys do it..??

Current Addiction

Jalan-jalan at center point before balik...Gerry asked me..

Gerry : Ada apa-apa kau mau beli?
Me : Ada...(long pause)....cloth diaper
Gerry : Di mana mau beli tu?
Me : Sana rumah Sandra.

That's how obsessed I am with this modern cloth diaper (CD). Belum lagi beranak sudah sya addicted with this CD. 24hrs daydreaming about this CD saja kerja saya. Even shopping for baju or shoes does not excites me anymore...Every morning, 1st thing i do is to log on to the internet & surf MiaBambina online store, after balik kerja pun trus click Miabambina. Just to see those cute CD.

I first learned about this amazing & cute diaper from Farrah's blog about cloth diapering. The prints are so irresistibly cute, re-usable, can save a lot from using the disposable diaper.

I have 3.5dozens of kain lampins from my Sis-in-law Joyce(Uloi), my MIL brought it back all the way from US, since Uloi didnt use much of it, and I thought..."If I use this modern CD, sayanglah the lampins..." then sya baca lagi Farrah's blog on CDing a newborn using the most basic cloth diapering system, i.e. the traditional lampin, prefold, nappy liners and diaper covers.

Yes, this is it....!!!!!!

Thanks to my good friend Lelen who help me sew 10 of the lampins into prefold...and I already bought the nappy liners. Now i only need to buy those diaper covers & snappi (since its more safe than the pin) ...

But what about nite time? I know lampins cannot tahan overnite, so maybe i use pocket diaper for malam. Then, Farah recommended me to MiaBambina on-line store owned by Sandra a mother of 2 who stays at Damai. There are so many choices for night diapering, from pocket diaper to fitted diaper... I was still blur-blur at this time... all those micro something something, balik-balik sya tanya Sandra.

The next day, after I paid a visit to Sandra's place, my sisters Josie&Didi bought me 2 Drybees pocket diaper with 2 Gad Hemp+2 microfiber(for nite diapering) and Huggalugs for my birthday pressies...i'm like the happiest person on earth...I was talking to Josie about the CD a week before...I think thats how she knows about it...tidak pula ter-cross my mind that she would buy it..hehe.

So, for one week i did some more research & read forums & read all the mama's blog who use CD. Then visit lagi tempat Sandra. So this is my 1st batch lah... I bought 6 wahmies wipes (for "8"tat), 2 cover diapers (1 small freshbots, 1 small Bummis), 3 more microfiber insert, and a set of 2 Snappi.
But i still need 1-2 more cover diapers, I wanna try the Thirsties brand, but no more small size, have to wait after CNY untill she re-stock the S size.
Now, I was thinking of trying the fitted diapers lagi...and the baby sling and the pail liners and the wetbags is so tempting oh mau beli...
eee so syiok oh, can't wait for my baby, mau kasih try all this...I'm so exited!!!!

1st batch of CD

New baby, New camera

I just need a semi-pro camera to take pictures of our coming baby...I learned that you dont need a big expensive camera to take beautiful pictures, it depends on the user, angle & editing pictures.

I just can't decide which one I want...either
Sony Cybershot H7 (RM1,699) ,
Canon Powershot S5 IS (RM1,699) , or
Fujifilm FinePix S8000fd (RM1,599).

These camera pratically have the same specs, just different brands. But i dunno which is the most worthy to buy.

"Tu batang dia...!!"

That's what my gynae Dr. said when he confirmed us the baby's gender.

Yep, its a boy. Now back to square one, since kami cari nama perempuan saja all this while... and of course my mom-in-law is the happiest person to hear the good news... ;-) hehe..

Punya susah cari nama lelaki..!!! I've been to so many baby names websites...tiada yang ngam. If betul-betul cannot cari ni...kasih taruh Gerry Jnr sajalah, paling senang..

Its been a year

Happy Anniversary to us...!!

So skijap...tidak pun rasa. We did'nt actually celebrate it, only said "Happy Anniversary!!" verbally to each other, and I also said it today...coz our wedding pun 2days kan. So consider 2 hari lah celebrate, hehe. Many more Happy Anniversaries to come... ;)

Water Retention

This is what I get from my intensive 3-day shopping spree at KL last week with my mom in-law and sis in-law. My ankles and feet had swollen so much i cant even fit my shoe that I recently bought for christmas... tiada shape sudah my kaki... :(

My tummy had grown twice as fast since last week, like macam suddenly tiba-tiba besar this week...

So big kan the difference..!!! 10 more weeks to go...kalau besar lagi...habis lah mau "ajan" ni...

Being Pregnant

I'm 28weeks now...im tired sudah mau tau tu baby's gender. Asal the baby's healthy is fine by me. We havent picked out a boy name yet. Katau lah kalau your husband yang football fan ni, semua tu nama-nama ganjil kluar..hmmm!!! I dunno why but I like it when people guessing on the gender...ada saja dorang punya comment.."Macam perempuan ni...sebab sampai siring tu perut kau bulat".... "I think lelaki ni, sebab belakang kau ada shape.." hehehe... My mom in-law mau lelaki but my dad may perempuan....

So far I enjoyed being pregnant, the kickings & baby moving is really exciting, except for the 1st 3 months my morning sickness but itupun not juga teruk, but i hate the feeling mau muntah & the smell of the sesame oil uugghh!! and of course the 2 stretch marks timbul recently...inda bagus tu Pureen Lotion...i should've stick to Josie's advice using Colonial Dames..tapi punya mahal!!!

I did'nt gain much weight during this pregnancy...macam baru 3kg. Ok jugalah coz i'm consider overweight juga. At first, worried jugalah, but Didi & my doctor pun relax saja tu...so ok lah tu mangkali, and everybody tidak notice sya pregnant untill my 7th months. They said tidak nampak my perut. Konon my badan besar or ada juga cakap coz saya jeemuk, so thats why tidak nampak, but i think sebab my nenen besar....hehe.

3months to go..!! so excited + nervous...

Phew...so lama I didnt update this blog. Finally the internet is up again...
Got a new job. Highlighted my hair red...Christmas hair maaa..
As for my pregnancy, still dunno whether its a boy or a girl...pandai lagi mau kasih tapuk. I'll update more, IF sya rajinlah...
